Dear Families,
NAPLAN Online
As outlined in the last newsletter, if you are seeking an Exemption or Withdrawal for your child from NAPLAN this year, please contact the school at your earliest convenience so that we can advise you of your options.
Testing will be in Weeks 3 & 4, Term 2.
Site Improvement Plan and Annual Report
Both our Annual Report and Site Improvement Plan are accessible on our website, however we have also produced a simplified version for families, students and teachers. You should have received a copy of this during the week highlighting the directions for Le Fevre Peninsula Primary School.
Harmony Week
Throughout this week, we have been celebrating Harmony Week. The theme of
“Everybody Belongs” is about recognising the success of Australia’s multicultural society and the benefits of cultural diversity and belonging. We had a huge number of children and staff wear an orange piece of clothing to acknowledge the day.
Thank you to all the families that supported the day.
Our assembly today was based on Respect and class items centred around Harmony Day and National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence.
Special thanks to our Harmony Day Committee who put a tremendous amount of effort into making the week such a success.
Picking Students Up Early
A reminder that it is school policy when picking up a student early to come through the front office and sign the student out. It is preferable that prior arrangements are made with the class teacher.
Year 7 to High School
Recently our year 6 & 7 students attended a half day visit to Le Fevre High School. This visit gave them a “Taste of High School” and the beginning of their transition process to secondary school. I am sure they enjoyed the visit.
School Sports
It’s really encouraging to see so many of our students participating in a variety of sports.
I was extremely impressed with our year 5/6/7 students who attended Shark Cup at Seaton HS over the past 2 Wednesdays. They demonstrated our values of Respect, Responsibility and Effort. Special thanks to the students who managed this event and trained our students over the past month.
I always enjoy watching students playing and being involved in school sport. I have been able to watch a number of basketball games and cricket matches. Thank you to our parent volunteers who continue to commit their time to help, manage and train the students.
Good luck to Campbell, Emily and Rhys who will participate in the upcoming SAPSASA Softball State Carnival.
Mobile phone use for primary school students
The Department’s position is that primary aged students cannot use their mobile phones and personal devices at school during school hours and on school property. The Department and the school recognise that there are legitimate reasons for students to bring a mobile phone or personal device to school. This may include:
- to ensure their safety while travelling
- so that parents can contact them outside of school hours
During the school day students are not permitted to access or use their mobile phones or other personal devices. Students must switch off or mute their devices before storing them at the beginning of the school day. They will not be able to access their device until the end of the school day.
Storage of personal devices
Mobile phones and personal devices must either be kept in students bags or given to the teacher to be stored in a secured location until the end of the day.
Week 9 Attendance Award
Congratulations to year 7 student Adam from Room 17 on winning our 100% attendance award for weeks 1-9. Adam is the lucky winner of a Boost Juice voucher compliments of Boost Juice.
Regards,
Bob
National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence & Harmony Day
This week has been unique as it has been a shared National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence as well as Harmony Day all rolled into one. The students have been focusing on getting along with each other, inclusion, being kind to each other and making promises to create a safe emotional and physical community for everyone. A huge banner has been worked on by all the classes and is on permanent display in our gym.
Room 4
This term Room 4 has been exploring BUCKET FILLING. Did you know that we all have an emotional bank account? When we do something with kindness for someone we don’t just add to that person’s bucket, we also add to our own. This fills our emotional bank accounts with more positivity and leaves us emotionally richer. To spread kindness in Room 4 we have been busy making our own buckets and leaving special notes and surprises for our classmates to find.
It is our goal in Room 4 this year to lift up, support and spread kindness throughout our lives, especially at LPPS.
Room 8, 9 & 22
On Monday we met our buddies in room 8 & 9. We sat down and the teachers explained what we were going to do. We got given Harmony Hearts to colour in while we waited patiently for our turn. Ms Jones, Ms Leaney and Ms Hayley organised icing, biscuits and decorations, we used party mix for the decorations. We got to choose between pink and blue icing and after we finished decorating our biscuits we got to eat them. They tasted amazing and we had so much fun!
The best Monday afternoon that has ever existed!

Room 22
Room 18
This week in room 18, students selected a culture, country or religion to research. They looked specifically into traditional clothing, what the items are called and why they are important. As you can see on our multicultural world, they represented a vast array of cultures from the Kenyan Masaiare Dresses to Dutch clogs, Japanese Kimono’s and the Muslim Niqab’s.
We made the world out of recycled paper to not only be sustainable but also to portray that we are to treat our planet with the kindness and respect it deserves, just like people! We are proud to display this meaningful and heartful piece of art in our room. Happy Harmony Day!

Room 20 & 21's Harmony Day Feast
Over the last few weeks to celebrate Harmony Day Room 20 and 21 wanted to acknowledge and appreciate the cultural diversity that our classes have to offer. What’s a celebration without food!? Here in Australia we are so privileged to indulge in such a variety of foods from all over the world. We decided to research our heritage, choose a country our families originated from and bring in a sample of food from there to share with our classmates and buddies.
We had such a fantastic time tasting over 20 different foods and learning lots of interesting things about different countries!

We are very proud to share that two of our students here at LPPS have recently been involved in the Fringe where they performed two shows at Gluttony.
Iwana and Danielle are part of Iwiri Aboriginal Corporation (www.iwiri.org), formed amongst other things to facilitate the teaching of culture between Elders and Young People. The group performed with Electric Fields and the SA First Nations Dance Collective. The show was also awarded 'Bank SA Pick of the Fringe'. We are so proud of these girls and their commitment to learning more of their Aboriginal culture which was shared through their performance.

Wow the end of Week 9 already!
As we lead into Easter I thought I would give you a few updates of what we are doing ‘Wellbeing’ Wise.
Children’s University is up and running and many students are getting their hours filled in quickly. Don’t forget the online portal where you can search up learning destinations and complete online activities.
Room 7 continues to be a supported alternative play space at Lunch times for most of the week and many students are becoming quite adept at building trains, playing board games and solving the wooden and metal puzzles.
We are continuing to practice Interoception in our learning spaces and are working towards promoting greater student agency and a deeper sense of inclusion over the rest of the year.
Now that we are well into the term, we are looking to start some small Social Emotional focus groups among some of our younger students. These will commence in Term 2.
Breakfast Club is now operating every school day and it’s important to say a huge thankyou to all our incredible volunteers who make this community offering possible. The students’ now make sure they are early enough for Milo!
Let’s me finish by wishing everyone a safe Easter Break and may your family traditions and or celebrations be special.
Till next time,
Bronte Stanford

On Wednesday week 7 and 8, students in years 5, 6 and 7 had the opportunity to attend Seaton High School and participate in the softball or baseball competition. The students had taken part in several training sessions in lead up to the carnival allowing us to make three teams for baseball and one for softball. We versed many other schools from our area including West Lakes Shore, Westport and Largs Bay School. All our teams played well and were able to get a few wins. Le Fevre Team Three made the catfish cup for baseball playing off for 3rd and 4th but in the end West Lakes Shore Primary ended up winning the Shark Cup, it was a great day.

Year 7 Students
On Tuesday 23rd March, 41 students from years 4 to 7 competed in the SAPSASA athletics carnival. The carnival was held at the Port Adelaide Athletics club. Everyone tried very hard and we had some great results. We received awards for many individual events as well as team events. It was a great day with lots of support and cheering for our team mates. Le Fevre came 5th overall in the large schools category. Well done to all the competitors, you did an amazing job and made us a proud school!
