Principal's Report

Dear Families,

Welcome back to the 2021 school year. I hope that you had the opportunity to spend quality time with your children, family and friends over the past 6 weeks.

We are looking forward to another very exciting year. It is important that we work in a partnership with you, the families. If you have any issues or concerns, please make contact with the classroom teacher in the first instance.

This year we ask that if you arrive after 9am, you come through the Front Office to collect a late slip.  Teachers will expect students who arrive after this time to come to class with this slip.  We appreciate your efforts in making this happen.

We look forward to a rewarding and fun year. We welcome new families to our school community especially our Reception students who are starting school for the first time.

Staff News

I would like to officially welcome our new staff for 2021.

They are:

  • Brittany McKay (Term 1) – Room 18 (Yr 6/7)
  • Vanessa Toogood - Room 8 (ARC) and 9 (Rec)
  • Barry Solomon – Room 5 (Yr 3/4)
  • Bronte Stanford – Well-being Coordinator

I would also like to welcome back the following staff:

  • Kelly Jones – Room 9 (Rec)

Striving for Success & Learning

During the first 2 weeks of school, all classes will be doing our ‘Striving for Success’ program where teachers will be talking to the children about our code of conduct, expectations and setting up safe and positive learning environments. ‘Striving for Success’ looks at students getting to know class members, values lessons (on respect, responsibility, honesty…..), school rules, bullying & harassment procedures, conflict resolution, goal setting and lessons on the Child Protection Curriculum: ‘Keeping Safe’.  The overarching theme of this program strongly supports our commitment to ‘You Can Do It!’ and the 5 Keys to Success.

This is an extremely important time as it will ensure that all of our classrooms are consistent in their approach, setting high standards and expectations for all students for the remainder of the year.

In 2021, our priorities will continue to be Reading, Writing and Numeracy.

SeeSaw Learning Journals

Throughout 2021, teachers will be using SeeSaw Learning Journals to support their ability to communicate with families and for students to be able to share their learning experiences at school. SeeSaw will enable families to feel more connected with what is happening in the school and in class.

Your child will be bringing home a note with instructions on how to connect to SeeSaw.

The purpose of this app is to share classroom learning and news, it is not intended as a medium to discuss behaviours, learning, make appointments, report absences etc.

If you require a time to meet with the teacher to discuss your child’s progress, or have any questions that require clarification, this must be done through our normal communication channels, which includes:

  • Email
  • Front Office
  • Diary
  • School phone

Please note that teachers will generally only check emails between 8am and 5pm weekdays and as such, responses can take up to several days.

Acquaintance Night & AGM

Our Acquaintance Night (6pm – 7pm) and the AGM (7pm- 8pm) are on Tuesday 23rd February (Week 5). Information on Acquaintance Night will follow shortly.

The Acquaintance Night gives families the opportunity to formally meet the class teacher as well as gain an insight into teacher expectations and classroom practices. If you need to meet with the classroom teacher prior to the Acquaintance Night, please feel free to make an appointment.

We are looking for some new members for Governing Council this year. Being on Council gives you the opportunity to learn more about the school and to be involved in decision making about the direction of the school.  Governing Council meet twice a term on Monday nights (Weeks 3 & 8) for no more than 2 hours.

Please note that we do have a maximum number of members that can be on Council.

If you are interested in nominating, a Nomination Form can be collected from the Front Office and will need to be returned prior to the AGM.

Building Upgrades

During the holidays we have had a number of facility upgrades. The old air-conditioners have been removed from the windows in Buildings 2 and 3. New blinds have also been installed in all of Building 3 classrooms. The views from the classrooms are amazing!

In Building 1, the common area has had new carpet installed, new furniture to support a modern learning environment and the classrooms have been repainted.

Assemblies / Newsletters

This year, assemblies will occur every 3 weeks on Fridays. This year, assemblies and newsletters will occur in Weeks 3, 6 & 9, with a final assembly on the last day of each term.

COVID 19 Information

We can all help stop the spread.

  • If you or your child have symptoms (even if mild), get tested and self-isolate
  • If your child is unwell, please stay home
  • Practise good hygiene
  • Observe social distancing protocols of 1.5m
  • Refrain from entering classrooms without an appointment

QR codes

SA Health has a plan to gradually rollout the COVID Safe Check-in system across the state.

As such, the implementation and use of QR codes will be staggered in all South Australian schools and preschools, with codes being made available for Le Fevre Primary School from Monday 8th February.

All adults (including staff and parents) entering the site must check-in by scanning the QR code or completing the paper recording log.

Students and siblings do not need to check-in.

Please note the COVID Safe Check-in is purely for SA Health contact tracing purposes and doesn’t replace the normal visitor sign-in process. All guests should continue to sign in at the Front Office on arrival.
